Product publicity is easier if you can get into gift sections

If you have a consumer product that would make a great gift for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Graduation Day, or the holidays, try to get into one of the many holiday gift sections featured by newspapers and magazines, or featured in holiday gift coverage on TV and radio.

Most of this coverage does NOT require that you buy an ad. And in many cases, the coverage can be far more effective than advertising.

Can you give an example of a gift section that does not require a payment? I don’t know how to go about finding these as all my researches only turn up fee based ones. My product is one of a kind art jewelry.

    Thank you.

I think you are referring to free vs. fee-based databases that offer contact information and pitching tips for specific media outlets that feature gift coverage, right?

I don’t know of any free databases. This information takes a long time to compile and even longer to update. The big benefit of the Gift List is that you receive last-minute notifications if a newspaper or magazines plans a special gift section that wasn’t part of the original editorial calendar.
