To Lorem Ipsum or to Samuel L. Ipsm

Samual L Jackson version of lorem ipsum

So What the Heck is Lorem Ipsum?

Used in publishing and graphic design, lorem ipsum is filler text that helps demonstrate the graphic elements of a document or visual presentation. By replacing meaningful content with placeholder text, viewers are able to focus on graphic aspects such as font, typography, and page layout without being distracted by the content. It also reduces the need for the designer to come up with meaningful text, as they can instead use quickly-generated lorem ipsum.

Derived from Latin dolorem ipsum, translated as “pain itself”, Lorem Ipsom was first used by Cicero in his treatise on ethics “de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum” (The Extremes of Good and Evil)  which was written in 45 BC.

Why Would I Want to Use Lorem Ipsum?

As mentioned above Lorem Ipsum prevents people from focusing on content in your graphic presentations. I learned early on, when working with client’s to build their websites, that if you placed the content in too soon, you would find your self rewriting and editing copy instead of finishing the design and getting the project launched. With Lorem Ipsum basically being Latin Gibberish, there is nothing for the client to focus on other than the design.

Great, But Where Do I Find Lorem Ipsum?

You don’t need to search ancient literature or learn Latin to use Lorem Ipsom, these days you  can just pop over to Ipsum.com and use their handy generator.

Or if you want something a bit more up to date, check out Samuel L Ipsum at Slipsum.com.
