This Weekend in the Hound House:

The majestic monarch butterflies are becoming extinct. I came home from last night’s Garden Club meeting with a handful of milkweed seeds to plant this spring. Milkweed species are critical for the monarch’s survival. Want to help save the monarchs? Grow local genotype native plants that are vigorous and hardy. And please, stop using Roundup.

1. Why Authors Need Email Lists

Why are authors reluctant to ask website visitors for their email addresses, and then use that list as a major part of their publicity and marketing campaign?

Many of them don’t want to appear “pushy.”

They think the money is in selling the book. It isn’t. It’s in an email list.

If you email your fans regularly with top-quality content, you can promote here and there and maybe sell them something. That’s why an excellent landing page that sells your book will have a box that asks visitors for their email address.

During the webinar I hosted on Thursday with Ben De Rienzo, he stressed that email opt-in boxes are one of 10 critical components of a book landing page.

If you didn’t attend, you can watch the replay on Vimeo or on YouTube.

We made a killer offer on how you can create an unlimited number of landing pages for your books, and collect visitors’ email addresses, even if you don’t have a website and you’re on a
super-tight budget. The offer is good only until midnight Monday night and it comes with a $50 Publicity Hound coupon. If you’re writing a book, launching one, or trying to revive sales for a book that’s on life support, you won’t want to miss this.

2. Free Tool for Gorgeous Quotes

You found a great quote and now you need a photo to display it on so you can use it on your blog, or on Facebook or Twitter.

Head over to Pablo, a free, easy tool to create beautiful images for your social media posts in under 30 seconds.

You can upload your own photo or choose from more than 30 others in their small photo album.

3. For Trade Association Members

Smart Publicity Hounds will use this super-easy tip.

Call your trade association and ask for their PR department. Tell them to pass along your name and contact information to journalists, bloggers and others who need members to interview.

Journalists often do research on a topic by going to an industry’s trade association first. This saves your association time tracking down members and asking their permission for a media interview.

This is one of the thousands of publicity tips you’ll find in my ebook, “How to be a Kick-butt Publicity Hound.” It’s the one learning tool I’ve created that gives you the best overall view of publicity and all the ways you can use it to promote anything. Grab the updated Fourth Edition for only $47 (regularly $97).

4. Hound Video of the Week

Watch cute dogs find a variety of creative ways to awaken their owners.
