This Week in the Hound House:
Bogie, my German Short-haired Pointer, is one the mend for about 10 days. She got a very deep cut in her back paw while we were at the park this week–possibly from a shard of ice. I rushed her to the emergency animal hospital 5 minutes away. About $450 later, my little trooper is doing great. She’s wearing one of those things on her head that looks like a lamp shade so she doesn’t bite off the bandage. Her yummy treat: Small pieces of gourmet deli turkey that I use to wrap around her meds. She inhales it and doesn’t even chew.
1. The Death of Captain Underpants
When Jeff Sieh started hosting Google+ Hangouts, his networking went through the roof.
A Hangout is a face-to-face video call, and its first cousin is Google Hangouts on Air. HOAs let you have a live online show, take questions from the viewing audience. When the show is over, it automatically uploads to YouTube for clients and customers to view later.
Before Google HOA, Jeff was happy to enjoy his nickname of Captain Underpants, which he earned by sitting at the kitchen table each morning in his boxers and T-shirt working on his computer.
But now that he’s hosting Hangouts and his fans can see him, all that has changed.
Then, led Danny Iny show you the four components you need to start building a raving fan base, just like Jeff Sieh is doing. If you missed the live webinar I hosted with Danny on Wednesday, you can catch the replay at 3 p.m. Eastern Time today. If you can’t make it, let Danny know what times work best for you.
2. Reach Conde Nast Editors
Thanks to book marketing expert John Kremer for tipping us off to the Condé Nast Style Society.
It’s an exclusive online community from the publishers of Vogue, Vanity Fair, Glamour, Allure, Self, and Bride magazines. They want your opinions on fashion and beauty trends, new product introductions, special offers, and more.
Membership in this Style Society, open to women only, is a perfect way to begin a relationship with the editors of these magazines. Membership offers special perks and rewards. It’s free to join but only after you take about five minutes to complete a short survey.
If you’re an expert on topics related to fashion, beauty, style, weddings, health, relationships and related women’s topics, this could be an entree into the magazine. I joined and found some interesting discussions and even story ideas on the private website.
Apply to Conde Nast Style Society here.
3. Publicity for Tech Startups
Here’s another great resource if you need publicity for anything related to technology like gadgets, apps, computing, mobile, web, green technology, software, tech novelties and more.
It’s a list of 15 A-list Tech Startup blogs, compiled by Jan Guardian at the Link-Assistant.com blog.
Jan cautions:
“But before you rush into scrutinizing the list we’d like to remind you that it is not the news outlets who write about you, it’s individual reporters that do. Therefore, our primary advice would be for you to think journalist, not blog.”
He spiced up the list with the most suitable writers covering startups at these hubs, and also included social metrics.

4. Hound Photos of the Week
Although Bogie is on “injured-reserve,” this is what she does for me normally. Keep dreaming….
