This Weekend in the Hound House:
Nothing, absolutely nothing, on my calendar this weekend. No commitments. No jaunts. No office chores. Just laundry. And tall grass. And a messy basement. Weekend, what weekend?
1. Radio Host Wants Books to Review
Every week, radio talk show host Elaine Charles gives listeners in Los Angeles, New York City and Miami a lively mix of news from the world of books.
She reviews print books, ebooks and audio books. She interviews authors such as Maya Angelou, Dave Barry, Mary Higgins Clark, Joyce Carol Oates, Dr. Ruth and Calvin Trillin and others who aren’t as famous.
Her audience is perfect if you want to get in front of 500,000 affluent, literate, influential listeners.
I found an ad for her show in Talkers magazine’s ezine this week. I emailed her and ask if she welcomes pitches from authors who want to suggest their own books.
Her reply: “Yes, send me pitches!”
So start pitching.
But first, stop, take a deep breath, and check out her archived shows. Being familiar with them will help you write a better pitch. Then, use the “Tell us what you think” box.
Talkers ezine, by the way, is a helpful free resource for staying up to date on who’s who, who’s in and who’s out in the world of talk radio. You canĀ subscribe here.
On the right side of the home page, you’ll find fascinating articles on “How to be a Talk Show Host” and “How to Launch an Independently Syndicated Talk Show.”
Do you know about the webinar replay on “Where to Find Millions of Readers Online to Review, Recommend and Buy Your Books?” I outline the major book review sites, niche sites, and sites where you can connect with librarians.
2. Media Lead from ABC
Publicity Hound Diane Delonzor shares this lead:
“ABC News would like to do a story for its website on chronic lateness and my book, Never Be Late Again. They’ve asked for assistance in finding interview subjects. If any of your readers would be interested, it might give them opportunity to mention their own books or businesses.
ABC is particularly interested in interviewing people who have a funny, excruciating or interesting stories to tell. They are also interested in those who have received a diagnosis for the problem.”
If you’re a good fit, email Diane.
3. More iPad Training Thursday
Mike Stewart rocked the doghouse earlier this summer with his free webinar on how to shoot video with the iPad.
He’s back again, this time with free training on how to make killer video slides with an iPad.
Speakers, this is perfect for you! If you aren’t speaking yet but want to learn how to create a presentation that will have your audience begging for more and help you sell products from the back of the room, don’t miss this one.
High-end HD video slides, created with nothing more than an iPad and a ten-dollar app, can separate you from all the other speakers who are using chintzy props and boring PowerPoint.
Mike’s free webinar will be from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time on Thursday, Sept. 19. Register here.
Everyone who arrives five minutes early gets a special prize from Mike.
Reserve your seat before you forget. You’ll receive periodic reminders from GotoWebinar up to the start of the webinar.
