This Weekend in the Hound House:
My favorite Easter candy was, and still is, those malted milk balls disguised as speckled bird eggs. Whether you’re worshipping tomorrow, or joining the kids in an Easter egg hunt, or digging in a basket for your favorite treat, enjoy this beautiful holiday.
1. Sidestep LinkedIn’s Stop Signs
They appear with little fanfare on Linked, and when you stumble upon them, it’s infuriating.
They’re all the changes LinkedIn has made within the last several months, and they bog you down or stop you in your tracks. You might find one of those stop signs when you use the Advanced Search function, one of LinkedIn’s most powerful tools. The only way to proceed is to upgrade to a paid account.
But if you know the tricks and the sneaky ways to sidestep the barriers LinkedIn is throwing in your path, you can continue to connect with the right people who can turn into valuable connections and maybe even clients.
LinkedIn expert Wayne Breitbarth knows all the tricks, and he’ll be teaching them during a 60-minute webinar from 4 to 5 p.m. Eastern Time on Thursday, April 9.
For instance, when LinkedIn removed the Products & Services tab from Company Pages, many business owners who had spent hours listing the items in their inventory were left wondering, “Now what do I do?”
Wayne has a trick for bringing those products and services to the forefront, right on your profile, without making it look like a blatant commercial.
He’ll show you what it is during Thursday’s webinar. Everyone who registers will receive several valuable bonuses within 48 hours of the call: the video replay, a self-evaluation that lets you score yourself so you can see how well you’re doing on LinkedIn, a list of “10 Ways to Promote Your Events on LinkedIn” and Wayne’s checklist of “10 Ways to Get More Company Page Followers.”
Wayne and I also use a fast, incredibly easy trick for growing our email lists. We’ll tell you what it is and even give you the copy we use so you can steal our idea.
Register for the webinar at my shop. Remember, if you cannot attend live, you’ll receive the video replay.
2. 18 Killer Book Marketing Tips
“How long do I need to market my books?” authors ask me.
“Only for as long as you want to sell them,” I say.
If you’re at a loss for how to sell that book you’ve worked so hard to publish, you’ll find ideas galore from some of the world’s top book publishing experts.
Mickie Kennedy of eReleases.com, a paid press release distribution site, has compiled a list just for you. See “18 Book Marketing Experts Reveal Secrets That Boost Recognition, Get New Readers, and Increase Sales.”
My own Number One tip: email marketing. It’s the only way to keep in touch regularly with your dedicated followers without making them do anything more difficult than clicking on an enticing email subject line.
Here’s another tip for authors and speakers who are looking for corporate or nonprofit sponsors.
Brendon Burchard will share tips galore on how to tap into the huge marketing budgets and giant marketing staffs of big companies during a free webinar at 2 and 7 p.m. Eastern Time on Thursday, April 9.
Steve Harrison will interview Brendon on “How to Get Major companies and Nonprofits to Sponsor the Promotion of Your Book, Product or Service.” The call is free.
3. Meet Me in St. Louis
If you’re in the St. Louis area, join me for a half-day workshop on Saturday, June 20.
I’ll be speaking to the St. Louis Publishers Association on “Savvy Media Relations: The New Rules for Profitable Self-promotion.” I’ll let you know as soon as registration opens.
If your group would like to host me on Friday, June 19, for private training or a public seminar, save on my travel costs by letting me know as soon as possible. Email JStewart@PublicityHound.com or call 262-284-7451.
4. Hound Video of the Week
Jimmy Fallon, host of the “Tonight” show, has his own way of predicting the winner of tonight’s Final Four. It’s the “Puppy Predictors,” a fun little segment that aired this week. Seven puppies were let loose to devour four bowls of dog food, with one bowl each marked for the Kentucky Wildcats, Wisconsin Badgers, Michigan State Spartans and Duke Blue Devils. The team that attracted the most puppies to its bowl will be crowned the NCAA Champ. Will it be my Badgers? Take a look.
