This Week in the Hound House: I’m keeping close at hand the
fabulous article “42 successful people share the best advice they
ever received.” Most of the tips have nothing to do with how much
you know but rather, how you react to problems, adversity and
failure.

1. Lure LinkedIn Company Page Fans
======================================
You can build a huge following of customers, prospects,
journalists, job-seekers and fans to follow and engage with your
company on LinkedIn–even if they aren’t connected to you–but
only if you create a Company Page.
After it’s created, follow these five tips:
–Install a Company Follow button on your website and blog. When
people click on it, your updates will automatically appear on
their LinkedIn homepages.
–Let people in all your LinkedIn groups know they can follow you
on your page. Include the link in discussions.
–Include a link to your Company Page in your email signature.
Urge your employees to follow your lead.
–Tell people they should follow you to learn about your latest
promotions, discounts, job postings, events, valuable tips and
how-to articles.
–Mention and link your Company Page on places like Facebook and
Twitter, Pinterest, on your YouTube channel, and on your Google
profile.
That’s only a small sampling of the tips that LinkedIn expert
Wayne Breitbarth will share tomorrow when he’s my guest on the
webinar “How to Use LinkedIn Company Pages and Ads to Attract an
Audience, Promote Your Heart Out and Help Them Buy.”
He’ll go live on the Internet from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time
so you can see exactly what he’s doing. Don’t worry if the time
doesn’t work for you because I’m recording it and I’ll email you
the links to download the video replay and the bonuses.

Remember that Company Pages are the #1 place to promote on
LinkedIn and to present all your products and services, complete
with descriptions and photos. And here’s the best part. You can
create dazzling Company Pages even with a free LinkedIn account.
If journalists check out your Company Page before calling you,
will they be impressed? Register now at

2. Why Strong Images Matter
====================================
Most journalists and bloggers state that they are significantly
more likely to use your content if it has good visuals.
And 67 percent of consumers consider clear, detailed images to be
very important and carry even more weight than your product
information, full description and customer ratings.
Social media strategist Sally Falkow, also a PR expert, says
Publicity Hounds should think about telling a story visually
first.
“Figure out what images, videos or infographics would actually
bring the story to life,” she writes. “Create those first. Then
write the release, article or blog post. Not the other way
around.”
I love it!
Read her entire article “Create and Optimize Visual Content: A
New PR Skill” which includes a list of 10 skills needed by PR
pros and Publicity Hounds. It’s at

3. How to Check for Plagiarism
====================================
How do you know if someone has plagiarized a popular article or
blog post you’ve written, or lifted entire paragraphs from one of
your press releases, or stolen fabulous sales copy at your
website to use for a similar product they’re selling?
Easy.
Use Copyscape, a free plagiarism detection tool.
Simply type in your web page’s address, or paste an article into
the window. Within seconds, Copyscape will tell you where else
that copy shows up on the web.
Let’s say a freelance writer lifts only three paragraphs of your
article for her own article. Copyscape will tell you that, too.
I use the tool to determine whether guest bloggers who write for
my blog are providing original content.
Learn more about Copyscape and watch a two-minute video that
explains how it works.

4. Hound Video of the Week
====================================
Thanks to Publicity Hound Teri Blaschke from Von Ormy, TX, for
this Animal Planet video of an enterprising dog that can’t swim
but figures out how to retrieve a toy from the middle of a
swimming pool.
