This Weekend in the Hound House:

I’ve spoiled my dog again. After our morning and afternoon walks, I wash the salt off her feet in the bathtub so it doesn’t burn her little tootsies. At first, I bribed her to jump into the tub by promising her not one treat, but two. Yesterday, after the tub routine, she followed me around the house for a half hour until I remembered to give her her two little biscuits. They never forget, do they?

1. Event Publicity Mistakes

The next time you sponsor an event, promise yourself you won’t send a text-only press release.

Dress it up, and attract attention, with a release that includes video, images or embedded content.

Include a short video clip of your keynote speaker. Authors publicizing book signings can tell their fans what they’ll be discussing, and they can even read a short passage from the book.

Is it a food event? Show some of the ingredients you’ll be whipping up.

Two years ago, just before the 2013 Super Bowl, Get City Dealz, a New Orleans business, embedded in its press release a video showing how it’s teaming up with a new boutique in the French Quarter to help them both reach out to tourists and visitors just in time for the 2013 Super Bowl and the upcoming Mardi Gras celebrations.

The video they included within their releases showed a sales woman discussing fun items that were for sale in the boutique, including a “vino to go” sippy cup and a Roger Goodell voodoo doll. (Goodell is the NFL commissioner.)

Not sending multimedia releases is just one of five event PR mistakes that newbies make. In a guest post at my blog, Jen Thames, an online marketing expert, identifies four more. Are you guilty of making them? Find out, and watch the video that was made in the French Quarter.

When using online press release, be careful that you don’t violate Google’s rules about how to link from within the release. A webinar I hosted explains Google’s New Rules for press Release Links. Order the video replay and the big bonus package for half price. Use the coupon code GOOGLE when you check out.

It will keep you out of trouble.

2. Non-Cheesy Stock Photos

Are you as sick of the expensive, cliche stock photos as I am?

Hubspot to the rescue, with a list of 10 Sites for Free, Non-Cheesy Stock Photos.

Several of the services offer photos that are free from copyright restrictions, and no attribution is required.

These photos are great for social media banners, your website, blog, marketing materials, slidedecks and White Papers, to name just a few.

3. How to Recruit JV Partners

Teaming up with joint Venture partners could be the easiest money you ever make.

JV partners are people who have a target market similar to yours. You can ask them to sell your products and services to their customers for a commission, or they sell yours to their audiences.

Finding the ideal JV partners has always been the hard part. Until today.

At 3 p.m. Eastern today, Danny Iny is presenting a free webinar that will show you how to build out your JV network. I’m sending you a separate email later today with more info about the call.

He’ll go into a lot of details on all the steps in his process, right down to sharing email templates that you can use to build out your JV network!

Register here.

4. Hound Video of the Week

Ever wonder what your dogs do when you leave the house? This owner decided to set up a camera and recorded his puppies, Mr. Pepper and Margo, as they waited patiently. Adorable.
