This Week in the Hound House:
I need to buy another car, one of the worst chores in the world, but only after doing my research. If you have car-buying tips, websites, books, recommendations, etc., bring ’em on…
1. Create a Personality Quiz
Here’s a fun idea for an “extra” you can pitch along with a story idea, or content you can create that can go viral on social media.
It’s a personality quiz tied to your topic, courtesy of Riddle.com.
You see these all the time: “What kind of dog are you?” “What do your favorite movies say about your management style?” “What kind of parent would you be?”
Riddle lets you create personality quizzes, lists, polls and more directly from your mobile device or a PC, using built-in photos and social media tools. You can use it for free, or pay for an upgrade that removes Riddle’s branding and gives you other options.
I tried creating a personality quiz but found their templates limiting. Start a new one and upload your own photos. (My new favorite website for free stock photos is Pixabay.com.)
Create a personality quiz for a book or product launch, a new website, as a freebie to build your email list or as a sweet little extra for a journalist.
If you create a personality quiz, send me the link and I might feature it here.
2. 5 Magic Topics for Radio
Thanks to radio publicity guy Wayne Kelly for urging Publicity Hounds to piggyback onto the report by the World Health Organization that processed meat causes cancer, and that red meat probably does too.
“It was what all the moms at the radio station were discussing this morning,” Wayne wrote at his blog yesterday. “They were concerned about what to feed their children as they were sending them off to school with a lunch.”
His idea: It’s a perfect topic for a registered dietitian or nutrition expert. Send a press release to radio shows in your city.
My idea: Do you refuse to believe there’s any scientific link to red meat and cancer? Or are you refusing to give up a juicy steak and beefy burger? Pitch yourself as the contrarian.
If you’re vegan, this is the time to gloat.
Watch Wayne’s video on the 5 Magic Topics for Radio (food is one of them).
3. Sick of Pink Yet?
Google “tired of pink in October” and you’ll find stories galore from CBS, ABC, Huffington Post, blogs and forums about women who think the “pinkwashing” during Breast Cancer Awareness Month has turned people against the campaign.
With only four more days to go in October, this is the perfect time to take a strong stand on this controversy and bid a fond farewell to all that pink. Or explain why complaining about it is boorish and how mammograms or early detection has saved your life.
Media trainer Joel Roberts says radio talk shows don’t want light. They want heat. Pink is still hot, if only for four more days.
4. Hound Video of the Week
Need a few last-minute ideas for your dog’s Halloween costume? Lots to choose from here.
