This Weekend in the Hound House:
My family is celebrating Thanksgiving tomorrow, the only day all 11 of us can be together. The best part of the dinner is the giant smoked turkey that came from an Amish farm in Ohio. The second best part is that I’m not the one who has to cook it.
1. Black Friday Sale & News Tips
I’m sending these tips a day early so you can take advantage of my Black Friday Sale, a full 50 percent off any products in The Publicity Hound Store when you use the word WOOF at check-out. Today only, until midnight Pacific Time.
But first, a tip about how you can establish yourself as a helpful source to local media who will be covering Black Friday with gusto.
If you’re out and about today, call local newspapers and TV stations with reports about crazy, colorful downright nasty stuff you’re seeing inside stores. Let them know about long lines, bare shelves, customers fighting (they love this one), and clever displays or in-store demonstrations. Is there a store clerk who went above and beyond the call of duty on one of the worst shopping days of the year?
Even though you probably won’t be part of this story, journalists will remember you if you can give them something juicy for “news at 11.”
TV stations often use homemade video so don’t hesitate to shoot it.
To do: Remember that webinar you forgot to attend, or that giant bundle of my special reports that you’ve been holding off buying because you wanted a doggone great deal? This is it. Go to my store, take a look around and shop until you’re dog tired. If you want my recommendation for products that will help you with a particular problem, hit Reply, tell me what you need and I’ll make a recommendation. Use the coupon code WOOF at check-out.

2. 5 Publicity Ideas for YouTube
Here are five ways to use YouTube for publicity:
- Upload a short how-to video demonstrating how to solve a problem: fix a leaking faucet, do a difficult yoga pose, tie a woman’s scarf correctly.
- Create a video of you reading an excerpt from your book. Then create a YouTube card and link to your blog where people can read a sample chapter.
- Offer the link to your short YouTube video to a journalist when you pitch a related story idea.
- Create a YouTube trailer video that invites journalists, bloggers and others to call on you if they need questions answered, background, story ideas, etc. New visitors see it on your YouTube channel’s home page.
- Use your trailer to promote another type of media you create: a newsletter, a podcast, an infographic, a blog post. Create a card and link to it.
To do: Jeff Johnson won’t be offering his new YouTube course until the first quarter of next year. But don’t wait for it before you do anything. Create a channel now and start publishing videos for more traffic and promotion.

3. Design Tools for Stunning Images
I’m betting you already know about Canva, the design tool that lets you create stunning images even if you aren’t an artist.
But do you know about DesignBold, which is similar to Canva, and Google Slides, a simplified, cloud-based version of Microsoft PowerPoint?
Social Media Examiner shows you, step by step, how to use each of these three tools to create images for your blog, marketing materials or social sharing.
To do: See “3 Social Media Design Tools That Create Stunning Images.”

4. Hound Video of the Week
Somebody give this dog a tennis racquet! He loves jumping back and forth with such enthusiasm while watching a tournament on TV that I’ll bet he’d be great on the court.
