This Weekend in the Hound House:
The doc says my cholesterol is a whopping 254. So much for the Greek Lemon Cake recipe I was going to make this weekend. It calls for 1 cup of butter and 6 eggs. I can substitute EggBeaters for the eggs. But what do I use instead of butter that isn’t loaded with chemicals?
1. 5 Ways Email Creates Fans
Here are five ways authors, and anyone for that matter, can use email to build relationships with their ideal readers.
I shared them Thursday during the webinar on “How to Use Email to Attract Fans, Create SuperFans and Sell More Books.” You can catch the replay here.
- Build anticipation for your book or upcoming project by updating readers on what’s happening at every stage along the way, before you launch it.
- Share interesting free tools, articles, photos and videos. Ask for their feedback.
- Ask questions. Notice above, where I asked for advice on what to use instead of butter in the cake recipe.
- Entertain them. In my yoga class last week, someone farted during a complicated pose. I explained how an author could spin that funny little incident into an email, along with an enticing subject line.
- Listen to their feedback. My readers begged me to switch from a text newsletter to this attractive HTML version.
To do: If you want to ensure you have an email list in place by the time you launch, or build an email list to strengthen your author platform, consider joining my Author Email Boot Camp, a 6-week course that starts next week. It includes two layers of tech support. Read what Sgt. Stewart will be teaching the Boot Campers.
2. Pull the Press to Your Events
Promoting an event?
Instead of a long, boring press release, the five Ws approach can pull more attendees and more media people.
Also, include an “Add to calendar” button in your event invitation.
To do: Read more tips in this Adweek article on “This is How You Get Press to Show Up at Your Event.”
3. Free SlideShare Templates
If you can crank out killer content, but you don’t have the graphics skills to make it look pretty, help is on the way.
Hubspot has a series of PowerPoint templates for SlideShare that you can customize to include your own branding.
It comes with an instructional template that will walk you through the basics and show you how to save your presentation as a .pdf so you can upload it to SlideShare.
To do: Join the 70 million SlideShare users, download the templates, and choose the one you like best.
4. Hound Video of the Week
Clark the dog is showing his incredible discipline! Can you do that?
