This Week in the Hound House:
I “unplugged” from technology for several days when I was in Ohio visiting my family over Christmas and the world didn’t come to an end. I need to do more of that. Try it. I dare you.
1. Number 1 Excuse for Lousy PR
People who bellyache about not getting the publicity they think they deserve often have no one to blame but themselves.
They use the tired excuse, “I don’t have time.”
“I don’t have time to learn Google+. I don’t have time to learn video. I don’t have time to talk to people in LinkedIn Groups. And don’t tell me I need to blog. I just don’t have time.”
I know the excuse well because I use it myself.
The problem is that unless we make time to create our own publicity, we have to rely on other people to do it for us.
Here are three ways I’m going to make time in 2014:
–Commit to learning how to do one new thing a week related to creating content. The biggest hurdle will be my new podcast, which I’m launching at the end of January, when I have several shows ready to go.
–Write good-quality posts more frequently by recruiting more contributors who will create original content for my audience. Interested? Read more at my blog.
–Spend the majority of my social media time in Google+ Communities. That’s where I’ve gained the best traction this year in the shortest amount of time.
I’m going back to my free ebook, “The Best of the Publicity Hound’s Tips of the Week of 2013,” and choosing several shortcuts that will help me accomplish all three. I recommend you do the same. Your goals might be different than mine, but we can use the same time-saving tools.
Just one tool, like the Social Media Image Maker that resizes and retouches your images, will shave entire days off this horrible chore.
Access the ebook and if you’d like to read the book on a tablet or smart phone, we even have an app for that.
The half-off coupons expire at midnight the night of Jan. 6.
2. 50 Tips for Free Publicity
If you haven’t seen my Pinterest board “50 Tips for Free Publicity” in awhile, hope on over there right now.
I’m adding to it regularly. Each pin links back to a blog post, and you’ll find some fabulous tips you might not have seen here.
That board, by the way, STILL holds the Number 1 spot in Google search for the keyword phrase “free publicity” and even outranks my website. This is a powerful strategy for dull, boring, yucky or academic topics that don’t lend themselves well to eye-catching images.
The webinar replay of “How to Create How-to Tips for Non-visual Topics on Pinterest and Earn High Google Rankings” comes with five step-by-step cheat sheets that walk you through exactly what I do and how I do it. This could be one of the best traffic generators you create in 2014!
The “Best of 2013” ebook in Item #1 above lets you buy the Pinterest webinar and slash the price in half. Grab the coupon code from the ebook, then go on over and order that or anything else you’ve been eyeing at 50 percent off.
3. Write a Book in 2014
If you’re joining us for the Publishing at Sea cruise Jan. 18-23 in the Caribbean, make sure you read all the emails we’re sending about how to prepare for your trip. This is going to be a blast.
If you aren’t joining us, do the next best thing. Watch the seven-minute video created by Jack Canfield which I’m promoting as an affiliate.
Jack has launched 47 New York Times Bestsellers and sold over 500 million books worldwide. He shares his best tips on how to get started as an author, how to make your book a success, and the real payoff to writing a book. (It isn’t what you think.)
You’ll also learn where to get three more free training videos on how to become a successful author.
4. Hound Video of the Week
Thanks to Publicity Hound Meryl K. Evans of Plano, Texas for these photos of the 10 Weirdest Dog Toys. My favorite is the red lips!
