This Weekend in the Hound House:
This time of year, I’ve canned 60 or 70 jars of strawberry jam, pickles, beets and corn relish, plus at least two dozen containers of homemade pesto. This year? Nothing. I don’t know where the summer went. I think I spent it slaving over a hot computer instead of a hot stove.
1. More Ashley Madison Story Ideas
You won’t find a juicier story right now than the Ashley Madison data dump–and who wants to have an affair.
Everyone is talking about it.
I came up with more 20 ideas on how you can tie into this red-hot story and generate publicity.
The ideas are for authors, speakers, crisis counselors, PR pros, attorneys, Internet experts, security experts, social media experts, private investigators, the clergy, therapists, marriage counselors and relationship experts.
You can find all my ideas at my blog. Start pitching!
2. 6 Magic Phrases That Sell Books
When you write marketing copy for your book, help your ideal readers see themselves reading the book says publicity expert Sandra Beckwith.
Use a detailed description in your Amazon sales copy, press release, website copy, on sites like Goodreads, or wherever you sell your book.
Example: “If you love thrillers, don’t miss this action-packed read!” sells more books than the simple phrase “An action-packed read!”
In other words, tell sweet romance readers, history lovers or people who need a good laugh that your book is for them. Don’t force them to figure it out.
Sandra explains five more in the article she wrote on “Six Magic Phrases You Can Use to Sell More Books.”
3. Tips from National Media
If you could sit down with the movers and shakers who decide who gets covered at the New York Times, Inc. magazine, CNBC and the CBS Evening News–and have a former “Oprah” producer join you, imagine what you could learn about how to pitch top-tier media where the competition is fierce.
You’re invited to a free webcast from 7 to 9:15 p.m. Eastern Time on Tuesday, Aug. 25, when Steve Harrison interviews one person from each of those media outlets. He’ll ask each one: “If you had a brother or sister who wanted to get a lot publicity and they asked you for your advice, what would you say?”
Register for the free call here. Prepare to take lots of notes.
4. Hound Video of the Week
Thanks to Publicity Hound Sophie Wajsman of Australia for this video of a dog guarding his owner’s bike. Watch what happens when the owner returns.
