This Weekend in the Hound House:

Do you brush your dog’s teeth? Bogie, my German Shorthair, loves
her peanut-flavored natural toothpaste for dogs, and we’re into
an almost-daily routine of brushing. But she’d rather have a Kong
filled with frozen peanut butter. (See Hound Video of the Week
for how to brush.)

1. Look for Journalists on LinkedIn
======================================

When looking for journalists to pitch, use LinkedIn’s Advanced
Search function to find those who are a perfect match for your
expertise.

Log into your account and click on “Advanced Search” in the upper
right corner.

This morning, I did a quick search for all journalists on
LinkedIn in using the keyword phrase “small business” and the
titles reporter, editor, freelance and blogger. LinkedIn gave me
24 results.

Those include a business writer for Huffington Post, an award-
winning freelancer/blogger for several national publications, a
writer for the Wall Street Journal, a freelance writer and editor
for a spa magazine, a national correspondent at Thomson Reuters,
and a freelance reporter for a weekly in California.

Some of them are connected to me. Others aren’t but they’re in
some of the same Groups I’m in, which means I can communicate
with them there.

My search took less than a minute, and about 10 more minutes to
review the list and decide which ones are a good fit for me.

I wouldn’t pitch any of these journalists without first building
a relationship with them, which I could do in Groups, or through
an introduction by a mutual connection, or by offering helpful
tips.

This is just one of several power tools on LinkedIn. During a
recent webinar I hosted, LinkedIn expert Wayne Breitbarth
explained how to use four new tools on that site to pinpoint your
ideal customer or journalist (even if you aren’t connected to
them), email them without spamming, eavesdrop on conversations
they’re having about you, and promote your products and services
with fanfare.

You can access the video replay and all the bonuses, and read the
long list of glowing testimonials from Publicity Hounds who give
“two paws up” for my webinars with Wayne.

2. Amazon’s Top Customer Reviewers
=====================================

So your book received a string of great reviews on Amazon? Big
deal.

We all know that many Amazon reviews are written by the author’s
friends who never read the book. Or by people who the author paid
to write them. Or by authors who wrote reviews for their own
books under false identities.

But if you can earn a favorable review from one of Amazon’s Top
Customer Reviewers, it carries a lot more weight and looks
impressive on your Amazon page. And studies have shown that it
can help you sell more books.

Writer Laura Pepper Wu gives you very helpful step-by-step
instructions on how to find and pitch Amazon’s Top Customer
Reviewers in the blog post she wrote.

Pitching those reviewers was one of the tips I included in my
webinar on “Where to Find Millions of Readers Online to Review,
Recommend & Buy Your Books.” You can access the video replay and
bonuses.
