This Week in the Hound House:
Thanks to Publicity Hound Patricia Scholes who trims her dog and reports that dog hair spread on plants does, indeed, discourage the critters from visiting. It forms an absorbent mat that keeps plants
moist. “The bear that pooped in our yard last year hasn’t been back since we started spreading our dog’s hair around,” she wrote. “It’s a cheaper solution than buying a $400 statue of a cougar.”
1. Jump on Obamacare Ruling
Within days, the U.S. Supreme Court will issue an historic ruling on the Affordable Care Act. If the justices declare the law unconstitutional, piggyback onto the chaos.
Insurance company execs and sales agents, what will this mean for your industry and your customers?
Accountants, how are you counseling your clients? What questions are they asking?
Hospitals, doctors and clinics, what’s the immediate impact of the ruling for those with or without insurance?
Share what you know or start a discussion in a LinkedIn group. Pitch your expertise to the media. Blog about the topic. Create a short video for YouTube. Answer a question about the ruling on Quora.com, the giant question and answer site for experts.
If the justices uphold the law, how about offering an update of where things stand with the law, what’s in store for next year, and your predictions on what will happen as a result?
2. Killer List: 109 Publicity Ideas
This is, by far, my favorite list of publicity ideas: 109 Ways to Make Your Business Irresistible to the Media.
One of the best is #16:
If you have an email list, ask your media contacts and bloggers if you can add them. Then provide them with education-based content marketing to sell them on doing a story about your business.
You could “drip out” a series of helpful email tips. These are called follow-up messages or autoresponders. Each email message can be an industry definition, a frequently asked question and answer, or a solution you created for a client’s problem.
This week, I’m teaching more about follow-up messages in Lesson 2 of my Author Email Boot Camp. Registration is closed, but look for it again in the fall.
3. Publishing at Sea Deadline
Join me and four other book publishing experts for our third annual Publishing at Sea cruise Jan. 24-31.
Deadline for early-bird sign-up is Monday, June 15, and there’s a limited number of cabins.
This cruise is perfect for fiction or nonfiction authors, publishers, publicists and even book coaches.
Your floating classroom is the Royal Caribbean’s spectacular “Allure of the Seas,” departing from Fort Lauderdale. A $300 deposit holds your place. You can take advantage of our monthly payment plan.
Read all the details at the Publishing at Sea website and reserve your cabin today. Or Reply and ask me anything about it.
4. Hound Video of the Week
Thanks to Publicity Hound Christine Buffaloe of San Diego, Calif., my virtual assistant, for sharing this heartwarming video of a Boston Terrier puppy that suffers from “Swimmer Puppy Syndrome,” the inability to stand, sit or walk. You’ll be cheering this little dog right through to the surprise ending.
