4. Hound Quote of the Week

This Weekend in the Hound House:

Does your garden look as pathetic as mine? Everything looks so
sad, so brown, so scorched by the summer heat. But the birds
don’t seem to mind. As long as I clean the bird poop from the
four bird baths every other day, they can still splish-splash.

1. Give Kudos on LinkedIn
======================================

It’s the equivalent of a Facebook “Like.”

But it’s a lot more impressive. It’s called Endorsements, and
LinkedIn rolled it out this week.

With just one click, you can now endorse your connections for a
skill they’ve listed on their profile. Or recommend one they
haven’t added yet.

You can endorse in two places:

–At the top of a connection’s profile, you’ll see recommended
endorsements for them. You can suggest additional skills as well.

–You can also endorse them from the Skills & Expertise section
that now showcases these endorsements.

Go to the LinkedIn blog at and click on the Slideshare
presentation to see what Endorsements look like.

When you’re done, check out the cool things that Wayne Breitbarth
taught Publicity Hounds how to do on LinkedIn with four power
tools the site introduced in the last year. I used one of them,
followed his instructions, and booked a speaking engagement for
later this year!

2. Magazines Love Your Holidays
=====================================

If you have your own holiday–or your own day, week or month of
year–go after publicity in the glossy magazines.

Many of them love writing about, and featuring photos, tied to
these special days.

In just one issue of Family Circle, I found publicity about:

–National Candy Corn Day, with fun facts about candy corn.

–National Teen Driver Safety Week.

–National Roller Skating Month.

–World Prematurity Day.

Create your special holiday–or your day, week or month of the
year–for free, at Chase’s Calendar of Events. And then learn all my tricks on how to
attract the attention of magazines not only for these holidays,
but for products and services you’re offering, good deeds you’re
doing, and news you are making. I’ll be sharing them all next
week during the webinar “How to Find Your Way into Glossy
Magazines.”

Most people pitching these magazines don’t use the vast majority
of tips that you’ll learn next week. Register here and bring lots of
questions!
