This Week in the Hound House:
This time of year, I usually devour anything with caramel–apples, sour cream apple pie with caramel topping, and salted caramels that I find in bins near the cash register in the hardware store. But I don’t want the weight to creep back on. So I was thrilled to find a dairy-free alternative for caramel. I haven’t tried it. If you do, let me know how you like it.
1. Free YouTube Cheat Sheets
YouTube rocks.
It’s my very own TV channel and it brings me new traffic, new fans and new customers.
But it’s hard staying on top of all the changes Google is making to the world’s Number 1 video site.
Jeff Johnson’s brand new, “completely updated for 2014” set of free Cheat Sheets for YouTube is hot off the press!
He also created an all-new 2.0 version of the training video for you. It reveals the 15 quickest and easiest ways to grab more free
traffic from YouTube.
Here’s the best part:
Your “Tube Traffic Secrets” Cheat Sheets lay all of them out for you in a step-by-step fashion and you can use it as a “checklist” to
make sure you are using all 15 of them to build your business.
It’s 100% rock-solid training that you can put to use in your business starting immediately. Remember, journalists are scouring YouTube, looking for videos on specific topics that will help them track down subject matter experts like you. Consumers are searching, too, especially for how-to videos that demonstrate how to solve a problem.
If you aren’t doing what Jeff teaches in this training video (and in the Cheat Sheets) you could be missing out on some serious
free traffic and email list-building from YouTube, and also free publicity.
You’ll know exactly what you need to do to overcome some major changes at YouTube.
In fact, if you just do half of what Jeff tells you to do you in the Cheat Sheets and the Training Videos, you should see a huge surge in free traffic from YouTube!
Grab your free copies. I’m one of Jeff’s affiliates, and if you buy something from him later, I earn a commission.
2. Write Your Headline First
Don’t start writing an article or blog post, or even an email pitch to journalists, until you write the headline or subject line.
You might think that’s backwards, but it isn’t. Your headline should include a promise to the reader.
If you don’t know what you’re promising, the content won’t be as strong.
Writing the headline first also helps you stay on track. If you’re like me, you’re sometimes tempted to wander off into areas that don’t have anything to do with your topic because you want the blog post has to be “complete.” Problem is, you’re watering down your message.
When you’re done writing the body of the post, you can always rewrite the headline to make it stronger.
You should have seen all those tails wagging on the Publicity Hounds who registered for my headline writing webinar on Thursday and watched me demonstrate a fun tool that actually writes their headlines for them! They’re already using it, along with the bonus handout of 66 power words that strengthen headlines and email subject lines.
Eight out of every 10 readers never make it past your headline. That means they’re ignoring some your best blog posts and articles.
Access the list of 66 power words, the video replay of the webinar, and the other materials.
3. Important Cruise Deadline
If you want to be onboard the Brilliance of the Seas Jan. 18-23, and take advantage of the lower price, you have only two more days. Only two balcony cabins remain.
Hold off, and the price jumps. This is a working vacation in the Caribbean where authors will learn how to write a bestselling book.
Read more about how you can get in before the deadline passes.
This past month, I’ve been sharing with you lots of tips from the “Chicks at Sea” and me on how to write, plan, print, publish, price and market your next book. The feedback from Publicity Hounds who were on our free webinars has been fabulous, and some of them already have claimed their cabins.
We’ll be working hard during the two days at sea, and playing even harder when we visit Grand Cayman and Cozumel.
The link above will tell you everything you need to know.
Some authors conferences charge five time more than that what you’d pay for this one, with only half the number of days of training and a sliver of the value.

4. Hound Video of the Week
Tails of Hollywood is an hysterical collection of movie poster puns featuring dogs and cats. You’ll find “Flealess in Seattle,” “Spaying Private Ryan,” “Dial N for Neuter” and many others, created by David Samson, an ad guy and screenwriter in Los Angeles. Thanks to Publicity Hound Dan Janal for passing this along.
