This Week in the Hound House:
My family is still talking about our fun day Saturday at Richland Carousel Park in Ohio, site of the third birthday party for my twin grand-nieces, Lilly and Alena. They received enough gifts to fill a small semi truck. And what do they play with when they arrive home? The giant number “3” balloon filled with helium. Within a half hour, they destroyed it.
1. Create a “Best Gifts” List
As Black Friday approaches, you’re seeing recommendations everywhere about the best gifts to buy this season.
How about creating a list for your niche? It should get decent search ranking on Google with a specific headline, and it’s helpful content to share on social media.
Some ideas:
Resume writers and career experts, compile a list of best gifts for job hunters in a specific niche.
Accountants and financial advisors, what products do you recommend for clients who want to keep important paperwork and tax forms organized? What about books on how parents can save for their kids’ college?
Authors, compile a list of books related to your niche. It’s up to you whether you want to slip the title of your book onto the list.
Corporate consultants, suggest the best gifts for bosses, with accompanying spending guidelines.
Pediatricians and parenting experts, what are the best non-techie gifts to break kids of their addiction to tablets and mobile phones?
Stories are also popping up on how to help the survivors of the California wildfires. Almost everyone agrees, send gift cards and donations of money. Fraud experts, how can people who want to donate be certain the charity or organization collecting donations is legitimate?
To do: Create your list, use a hashtag and pitch to bloggers, podcasters, traditional media and in social media groups.

2. Free Posters, Photos
Poster House, a new museum opening next year, is collaborating with the Library of Congress to offer digital images of almost three dozen posters, free for reuse.
The Library believes that this content is either in the public domain, has no known copyright, or has been cleared by the copyright owner for public use.
Use these to accompany your blog posts, in email newsletters like I’ve done here, in your marketing materials–wherever you need an image. The posters might inspire ideas for content you can share.
To do: See the posters here. Then check out the collection of sets of images. The posters and sets are just a small sample of the Library’s digital collections that are free to use and reuse.

3. Today: Author Tips from Jack Canfield
When he was first starting out, Jack Canfield and his credit cards were almost maxed out and 144 publishers had rejected his book “Chicken Soup for the Soul.”
But he never gave up his dream of being a bestselling author.
Today, Jack is arguably the most successful, bestselling non-fiction author of all time.
He has over 500 million books in print and has launched 47 New York Times bestsellers. But how did Jack get from where he was to where he really wanted to be?
Find out on a free webinar at 2 and 7 p.m. Eastern Time today–Tuesday, November 20, when Steve Harrison interviews Jack. Whether your book is just a dream, a still-to-be-completed manuscript, or a published reality, this call is for you.
Go here now to register for today’s free web class.
You will learn:
- Why becoming a bestseller is no longer about luck – it’s about having a plan.
- What you should ideally be doing before you start writing your book.
- How Jack responded when his book was initially rejected by 144 publishers as well as his own literary agent, and how you too can find the inspiration to keep going.
- A simple technique Jack used in writing his book, “The Success Principles,” which allowed him to later sell thousands of copies to a single company. Plus, how Jack used the same method to land 50 speaking engagements — all because of something he did while writing the book.
- How to take a small part of your book and get a company or organization to pay you big bucks for it. On the call, he’ll tell you how this one technique brought him $75,000.
- Two keys to turning radio and TV interview into sales.
To do: Register for the free web class on “How to Write a Book and Make It a Big Success.” I’m proud to be a compensated affiliate for their offerings.
