This Week in the Hound House:
My family can’t agree on what they want to do when they visit me in a few weeks. I think the guys will end up doing the Miller and Sprecher brewery tours in Milwaukee. The girls will cruise down the Milwaukee River and onto Lake Michigan aboard the Edelweiss, a fun tour boat. I have a special surprise for them, too, but I can’t mention it here because they peek at this newsletter. I’ll be sure to fill you in after they leave. It’s pure Wisconsin and if you visit here, it’s worth a side trip.
1. Build a Raving Fan Base
Setting up a business online is the easy part.
Attracting thousands of fans and giving them time to know, like and trust you takes patience and perseverance.
I know. I’ve been doing this for almost 20 years.
And there’s always a temptation to sell, sell, sell right out of the gate. That’s why I watch people like Danny Iny of Firepole Marketing. He’s the guy I’ve been emailing you about the last few days.
Danny has built a very successful business online in only a few years. In just one year, his revenue jumped from $237,000 to $680,000. He did it by laser-focusing on his target audience, and giving away mountains of high-value content at his website and in the dozens of killer guest posts he has written for popular, high-traffic blogs.
Tomorrow, he’s going to share more content during a free training session on how to build a raving fan base that buys more than $250,000 of your stuff…per year. It’s called “Passionate, Purposeful and Prosperous…This Year!” and it’s at 1 p.m. Eastern Time (10 a.m. Pacific). That’s Wednesday, Sept. 10.
Register for the free online workshop and receive three free gifts. You’ll get a follow-along workbook you can use during the workshop to get the most out of the training. You’ll also get a handy flow chart so you can see how to build your business, and a list of technology tools so you know exactly what to use.
2. 72 New Magazine Titles
You’d never guess the magazine industry is hurting based on the 72 new titles during August.
Twenty will be published regularly and include Cyclocross, Mega Truck, At Home and Intercourse (it’s not what you think). The other 52 titles are all special editions.
You can see them all courtesy of Samir Husni, aka Mr. Magazine.
I’ve been urging you create a tips lists (5 Tips on How to…) and submit them to magazines. Editors love publishing these short items that fill odd-size holes on a page.
Learn how to milk every tips list for all it’s worth when you grab the webinar replay of “17 Ways to Use a Tips List to Make It More Powerful Than Ever.” It comes with a time-saving bonus package that includes 3 templates for tips lists so you don’t have to start from scratch.
3. Free Wikimedia Images
Wikimedia Commons celebrates its 10th anniversary with a reminder that it has more than 22 million images ready for you to use.
It’s the world’s largest freely licensed educational media repository.
Learn more about the annual Wiki Loves Monuments contest. Submit your photos until the end of September.
You can find the complete collection of images, grouped by topic.
4. Hound Video of the Week
Thanks to Publicity Hound Cathy McLane of Minneapolis, Minn., for “Run, Walter, Run!” This Labrador, once unleashed, makes a wild dash for the water. You’ll feel like you’re riding on his back.
