This Week in the Hound House:
Planning my jaunt to Door County, the thumb of Wisconsin, an annual trip I’ve taken for almost two decades with my dear friend, Ann Dekorsi. We hike. We eat fried perch. We rummage. We relax. We eat smoked whitefish pate. We invade the shops. We eat Corsica bread from the Door County Bakery. We play cards. We pick cherries. We recharge. And we come back relaxed and ready for business.
1. 7 Days of Free Video Clips
While making videos for a corporate client, I needed a clip of a young girl at a computer.
Instead of spending hours finding a girl, scheduling the shoot, setting up the lights and video camera, and shooting it, I discovered a website that lets you download video clips for seven days before deciding if you want to subscribe to the service.
VideoBlocks lets you download royalty-free stock footage, motion backgrounds, production music, sound effects, after effects templates and more. Simply create an account, and you can get unlimited downloads to everything on the site.
Everything you download is yours to keep and use forever, royalty-free, even if you cancel your subscription within the seven-day period. You can use the clips for video editing, YouTube videos, presentations, TV shows, ads, home movies, DVD menus, parties and events, websites and any other video project you can think of.
The selection is very limited, but I found short clips that are perfect for two videos I’m creating.
VideoBlocks is just one of 61 terrific tips, tricks and tools I shared last week during the webinar “61 Publicity Ideas in 61 Minutes.” It included lots of freebies like this one, as well as the free headline analyzer tool I told you about last week.
Several dozen Publicity Hounds emailed me and said they’re having a ball with that tool, turning ho-hum headlines into zingers that are scoring in the 80th and 90th percentile!
The webinar also includes an entire section on what’s new with Google, including two dynamite tips on how to get your thumbnail photo to show up in Google search results and exactly how to use that photo to practically ensure that people click on your link.
I tell you where to find an entire marketing library, for free, that offers infographics templates, crash sources on social media updates, checklists, tips lists, sheet sheets, ebooks, tips for email marketing, and lots more.
If you missed the webinar, you can order the video replay and all the bonuses, including three of my own cheat sheets from past webinars.
2. Big-Ticket Breakthrough
The perfect complement to Mike Stewart’s free training on how to create killer video slides with an iPad is Steve Harrison’s free call on how to create and sell big-ticket items that will bring you much more than a $20 book or a $500 speaking engagement.
Many authors and experts are shortchanging themselves by charging far too little for their expertise.
You might be surprised how many of the people who buy your $20 book might also purchase a $200 audio product, a $1,000 retreat or a $5,000 coaching program–all based on the material in your book–simply because everyone learns differently.
If your book isn’t out yet, it may make sense to do these higher-priced offerings first, because they’re typically much faster to create and because it’s easy to turn a profit.
Want to figure how to find the money in your book or message?
Join Steve on Thursday, Sept. 19, at 2 or 7 p.m. Eastern, for a free webcast in which he’ll show how to make more from your content while helping a lot more people.
3. Big-Ticket Breakthrough
Publicity Hounds are casting their votes in my slogan survey.
If you haven’t weighed in yet, please do. Choose from among the 10 slogans I’m considering, or tell me if I should keep “Tips, tricks and tools for free publicity,” my current slogan. To thank you, you’ll get a coupon good for $10 off any order at my website, valid until April 15.
Or if you have a better slogan, let me know. If I’m doggone wild about it, you could win $100.
The survey will take only a minute or two. Take the survey here.
4. Hound Video of the Week
I love the videos of the soldiers returning from duty, being greeted by their four-legged friends. In this one, after the soldier sits on the chair with the dog in his lap, you can almost hear the dog barking “I love you.”
