This Week in the Hound House:
I’m trying to recuperate after a nasty cold that left me down and out over the weekend. No energy left to send Saturday’s email tips. It’s great to be back here with you again.
1. 3 Hot Interview Ideas for November
You can always count on my friend, radio host Wayne Kelly, to suggest enticing ideas you can pitch each month.
Here are three goodies for November:
- National Healthy Skin Month. Here’s a super hook: Men make up 49 percent of all spa treatments.
- Movember, celebrated to raise awareness of men’s health issues such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer and men’s suicide.
- National Gratitude Month. Wayne points out that lots of super-successful people keep gratitude journals. Wouldn’t that be a great hook for a radio show?
Authors, speakers, experts and small business owners, promote your expertise by tying into any of these three topics.
To do: For more tips on how to pitch these ideas, read Wayne’s blog post.

2. Promote Your Media Appearances
Here’s another golden nugget from Wayne Kelly.
After a media interview, don’t just thank the broadcaster or journalist. Do something far more powerful. Say “thanks” on social media by promoting the interview to your friends and followers.
“I have had guests who were going to be on my show, promote it beforehand on social media, and tell people to tune in to their radio interview,” Wayne writes. “Then after the interview was done, they promoted the interview again, thanking the host and radio station for the interview and even sharing a replay link.”
Be sure to tag the journalist or media outlet.
To do: Read Wayne’s blog post “Promote Your Media Appearance on Social Media.”

3. Jump-start Your Speaking Career
Public speakers speak for free. Professional speakers get paid.
If you aren’t well known, you might be reluctant or embarrassed to ask for money. That’s a mistake.
Many companies, colleges and organizations have budgets to pay speakers like you handsomely, even if you’re not famous or well-known in your field. But you’d never know that unless you ask.
Join Steve Harrison and five other successful speakers–all authors–for a free telephone seminar this Wednesday, Nov. 8, at your choice of two times: 2 or 7 p.m. Eastern.
They’ll explain the five critical steps for landing speaking engagements, especially when you don’t have a lot of time to market yourself. Their tips include proven ways to brand yourself and your message in a way that will promote a flood of requests for speaking engagements, how to use LinkedIn to get more invitations to speak, and the topics that corporations and colleges are most interested in having speakers address.
To do: Register here. This is an affiliate link. Even though the call is free, I earn a commission if you buy anything from Steve down the road.
