This Week in the Hound House:

Did you see the movie “All the Money in the World” that I recommended last week? Click reply and let me know if you liked it. On Saturday, we saw “Molly’s Game” about the injured skier who ran the world’s most exclusive high-stakes poker game before being arrested by the FBI. The story was interesting but the movie was too long. And I felt no emotional connection to Molly. What movie do you recommend?

1. 10 Creative Ways to Use Your Reviews

What do you do when you see a favorable review or testimonial for your product, service or book on Amazon, Yelp, LinkedIn or any other website?

Do you copy it and add it to your site? Good for you! But don’t stop there.

Take advantage of every chance to spread that third-party endorsement far beyond your website where potential customers, journalists and influencers will see it. Here are three more ideas:

  1. On the outside of product packages. Your customers will be so excited when they read it that they’ll rip open the packages.
  2. If you have a photo gallery on the social media sites, add images of testimonials but don’t overdo it. Create them with easy graphics tools like PicMonkey, Canva or Powerpoint.
  3. At the end of your email signature. Add a one- or two-sentence review, and swap them out occasionally.

To do: Learn more ideas from digital marketing expert Ifran Ahmad’s infographic “10 Creative Ways to Use Your Reviews.”

2. Audio Book Marketing Tip

Here’s a nugget from Good Housekeeping magazine that doubles as a marketing and sales tip for your audio book.

Exercisers who saved an audio book for the gym worked out 51 percent more often than those who didn’t, according to a study in Management Science.

“Sweat while listening to an intense thriller like ‘The Woman in the Window’ by A.J. Finn and the treadmill time will fly by.”

To do: Substitute your own title and your name and use this in your marketing materials. Be sure to mention the source for instant credibility. Management Science is a scholarly journal that publishes scientific research on the practice of management focusing on the problems, interest and concerns of managers.

3. Today: Pitch Major Media

Here’s another tip on how to pitch major newspapers, magazines and websites.

Go to their website and look for a copy of the Editorial Calendar which is sometimes difficult to find. It lists upcoming special sections and topic-specific features for the year ahead. It’s created for the benefit of advertisers who can set aside ad dollars for those sections. Even if you don’t want to buy an ad, the Editorial Calendar gives you a sneak peek at what’s ahead so you have plenty of time to prepare a pitch and deliver your pitch. At the website, look under “Advertising Opportunities.” Not all publications have a calendar but if you find one, you’ve struck gold.

Six journalists will share more tips for print publicity during free training offered by Steve Harrison today–Tuesday, Jan. 9–at 2 and 7 p.m. Eastern. They have written for the New York Times, Woman’s Day, Cosmopolitan, Parents magazine, Huffington Post, FoxNews.com, The National, Women’s Health, Real Simple, Men’s Journal and other leading outlets.

Learn what most authors, experts and entrepreneurs never discover about how to get major-league publicity for a book, product or cause.

4. Hound Video of the Week

This independent dog decides to take matters into her own paws when snow starts to fall. She grabs the sled and takes it for a ride without anyone’s help. Thanks to Publicity Hound Reesa Woolf of Boonton, N.J. for this one.
