When you see a request in your email from a blogger or journalist asking if you have time for an email interview, resist the urge to say to yourself, “Lazy.”
That’s what I used to think.
“Why don’t they just call me and interview me? It’s so much faster.”
Faster for me, but not for them. This morning, as I was reading the Q&A Interview with Joan Stewart — The Publicity Hound at author Mark Tilbury’s blog, I was thinking about how the Q&A format is such a valuable tool for bloggers and journalists who need content, and for Publicity Hounds who want attention.
When I worked as a newspaper editor 25 years ago, it was almost unheard of to send questions to a source and print the answers verbatim. Journalists wanted complete control over an interview, including the power to ask a “gotcha” question.
Times have changed.
Newspapers are marching toward the graveyard. News staffs are being cut to the bone. Reporters under immense pressure to create content for their digital editions as well as for print. The Q&A interview solves that problem.
