Lesson #82: Pitch bloggers
One of the best ways to create a publicity explosion on the Internet is to get your message in front of bloggers whose audiences are a perfect fit with what you’re offering.
But you can’t just email your press release to them and expect them to get excited about it. Bloggers don’t want the same news that everybody else is getting. They want new information–and they want it first.
Here’s a quick five-step way to pitch bloggers:
1. Do a blog search and find the best blogs for your topic. You can use a blog
search engine like Technorati.com
2. Do your research on the blogger. Read their blogs for a week or two.
3. Start a relationship with the blogger before you pitch. Post comments
on their blog, multiple times, preferably.
4. Write your pitch. Short and sweet, to the point.
5. Email the pitch. Do not post it at their blog. Within the body of the email,
link to your press release.
Pitching bloggers is more difficult than pitching ezine editors or even journalists. That’s because if you don’t pitch correctly or you make them mad, they might criticize you publicly on their blog.
But if you pitch them correctly, and they love your message, they have the power to spread the word about you to hundreds and even thousands of people within minutes. Because bloggers love to link to each other, that means your message could reach other bloggers you never knew existed.
Denise Wakeman and Patsi Krakoff, known as The Blog Squad, joined me for a teleseminar called “How to Pitch the Best Bloggers and Create a Publicity Explosion.” It includes a list of the 10 things that make bloggers angry, and dozens of helpful tips on how to establish strong relationships with bloggers and use them as an important part of your publicity campaign.
Opportunity #82: Training seminars
If you’re hosting a training seminar, speaking at one, or attending one, write a press release. Be sure to include a bulleted list of what people will learn.
A seminar isn’t only an event in which you speak before a live audience. It can include free or paid teleseminar, a class, retreat, workshop, podcast, webinar, group coaching program, book signing or author event, a membership site or support group.
When you host speaking event, be sure to invite your Facebook Friends and Fans. Christine Buffaloe, who manages my Facebook account, says using the Events feature is just one of “11 Ways to Avoid Missed Opportunities on Facebook.”
