Ezine publishers

Lesson #81: Ezine publishers

Now that you’ve written and distributed your press release, you don’t want to take the chance that people will find it. You need to be proactive and make sure your release gets in front of a group of people who want to know about it.

That group consists of publishers of electronic newsletters, or ezines. These publishers have a ready-made audience of people who have given them permission to email them. Some publishers have very big lists and that means you can often get your message in front of tens of thousands of people.

Here are three excellent resources for finding ezines that are a perfect fit with the topic of your press release. All allow you to search by category:

The Ezine Directory

New-List, formerly known as Ezine-Universe

BestEzines.com

When you find an ezine that you think is a good fit with your topic, I recommend you subscribe to it and read several issues before pitching the publisher. When you’re ready to pitch, email the publisher with a customized pitch and provide a link to your press release within the body of the email.

Opportunity #81: Trends you’re seeing

If you start noticing a trend in your industry, or within your clients’ industries, write a press release. For example, I’m noticing that more and more Publicity Hounds are using social networking sites like LinkedIn, YouTube and MySpace for publicity. I could write a press release about this and include “8 tips on how to use LinkedIn, YouTube and MySpace for publicity.” This is called a tip sheet. See “Special Report #16: How to Write Tip Sheets That Catch the Media’s Attention.”
