Your dog can soon have its own Twitter account

By Joan Stewart

By the end of the summer, your dog should be able to start sending messages from his own Twitter account.

It’s called Puppy Tweets and it’s made by Mattel.

The package includes a plastic tag with a sound and motion sensor that attaches to the dog’s collar.  Connect the USB receiver to your computer.  Download the software, and then create a Twitter account for your dog.

The sensor looks like a dog tag and comes in pink or blue.  It contains a microphone to pick up any sounds your dog is making. The motion sensor detects movement as your dog walks, or runs, throughout the house.  Based on the sound and motion readings, the program guesses what the dog is doing and informs you of his activities via tweets.

The tag is programmed with a series of 500 pre-programmed tweets. So if he’s running around, you might get a tweet that says “I finally caught that tail I’ve been chasing and…OOUUUCHH!” Or if he’s quiet and the sensor detects a little movement, the tweet might say, “Guess what I’m licking?”

Puppy Tweets is expected to retail for about $40.

Will you get one?

Not me. I have a hard enough time keeping up with the more than 14,000 people I follow on my own Twitter account. And as for what my dog is licking, I’d rather not know.
