Trouble remembering social media passwords? Try KeePass

By Joan Stewart

Remembering passwords to your website, blog and email program are hard enough. But if you’re participating in social media, it can be a nightmare, particularly since it’s a good idea to change them periodically.

I’ve been using a great program called KeePass,  the free, open source, lightweight and easy to use password manager.

You can put all your passwords in one database, which is locked with one master key or a key file.  So you only have to remember one single master password or select the key file to unlock the whole database.

I followed the advice of Jason Saeler, my web manager, and purposely created a complicated password with a variety of capital and small letters, numerals and punctuation marks.  When I log in, all my sites are listed, by category, on the left side of the screen. I click on a site and, with just one more click of the mouse, I can see my log-in name and password.

Adding entries is drop-dead simple. You can export your entire database, too.

Check out their tutorial and forums.

I’ll definitely be taking a closer look at KeePass for storing my passwords. Definitely like the added feature of being able to export your entire database.
