Most people write a press release, upload to their website or one of the paid distribution sites, and then forget about it.
Missed opportunities galore!
One of the best ways to call attention to your release, assuming it’s for a business audience, is to promote it on LinkedIn five ways. I’ll be discussing them all, and 27 more ideas on press release promotion, when I host the webinar at 3 p.m. Eastern today, June 21, on “33 Ways to Promote Your Press Releases.” If you can’t attend live, register anyway because I’m recording it, and the replay will be available within 72 hours, along with a handy checklist you can use every time you write a press release.
Here are my ideas on how to promote releases on LinkedIn:
1. From your LinkedIn profile.
Within your profile, LinkedIn gives you three opportunities to link to websites. In the screenshot below, each of the three on my profile links to a separate site. But they don’t have to.
If you only have one or two websites, use the third slot to link directly to the page where people can find all the titles of your press releases, presumably in your online press room.
2. From a LinkedIn status update.
Write a short into, telling people why the release is important. Don’t simply parrot the headline.
3. Use the Box.net app.
Box.net lets you store all your content online, so you can access, manage and share it from anywhere. You can integrate it with LinkedIn.
Log into your LinkedIn account > More > Boxnet Files > Create or Choose a folder
4. From within LinkedIn Groups
Share your release with other members of a group only if you’re certain they’d be interested in it. If the topic of the release has nothing to do with the topic of the Group, theymay view it as spamming. If you’re not sure whether your group will allow press releases to be shared, check with the group administrator.
5. From Company Pages
LinkedIn lets you promote as much as you wish on Company Pages. Within the company profile, include the URL where people can find your releases.
