Press release tip to lure the media

I’m betting 9 out of 10 of you won’t bother doing this because it’s too time-consuming.

But if you do, you’ll see more media outlets using your press releases and calling you for interviews.

This exercise is courtesy of Paul J. Krupin, whose company writes and distributes press releases. He calls it the “3 I Technnique” which is short for “Identify, Imitate and Innovate.”

Here’s how it works. You first identify a newspaper you want to get into and look for an article that’s similar to the kind of article you’d like that newspaper to write about you.

Then you study the article to see how it’s written. Then you write your next press release, imitating the structure of that article, but innovating by using your own words.

That’s the short explanation. You can read about it in more depth in this article at his website.

Why does this technique work? Because when journalists read your release, they’ll think “This is perfect for us!” Yes, you may have to write several versions of the same release if you’re sending it to several newspapers. But whoever said press release writing was easy?

Paul is one of several publicists whose press releases I featured in my free email tutorial called “89 Ways to Write Powerful Press Releases.”

Thanks to self-publishing guru Dan Poyter for linking to “The 3 I Technique” in today’s ezine.
