Nutritionist chides Bush for meat-heavy lunch

President Bush's lunchKudos to Australian nutritionist Vicki Flood for generating publicity by piggybacking onto President Bush’s visit to her country and criticizing his not-so-healthy choice of lunch food.

Flood, from Sydney University’s Centre for Public Health Nutrition, said Bush’s plate, piled up with surf ‘n’ turf with only a hint of vegetables, was a particularly unhealthy sight. In an article that appeared at the Sydney Morning Herald website, she said:

“The main concern with the plate is the quantity of the protein-rich foods, with a very small amount of vegetables and no breads at all. The sausages are probably a higher-fat choice of meat and the T-bone generally is a higher-fat meat choice as well, so the meat choice alone, the quantity of the meat, is the concern.”

A tip of the hat to Publicity Hound Yvette Stanton, an embrodiery expert from Down Under, for calling this to our attention.
