Hounds help author of book on grief

Fourteen Publicity Hounds had advice for Julie Berry of Rivendell Communications in Sugar Grove, Pennsylvania. Julie’s company represents an author who has become an expert on grief and loss. The author is also a mountain climber and nature lover who enjoys sharing the lessons she learns from physical challenges with nature. Julie said typical book signings aren’t working and she wants some clever ideas for marketing the book.

From Kathi M. Peterson of Asheville, North Carolina:

“If the author sold in bulk to funeral homes in enough markets, who’d need book signings?”

From Miriam Silverberg of New York, New York:

“The author could contact self-help groups and offer to speak to them. Also churches and synagogues as well as community centers and bereavement groups. Also hospitals and hospices. I think she’d be a natural for radio and television talk and call-in shows. Newspapers should be contacted for human-interest stories regarding her own losses.”

From Kare Anderson of Sausalito, California:

“One of the most powerful ways to move through grief is by literally getting in motion, as the author appeared to do by taking up mountain-climbing. Yet women are more likely to sit still when upset and worry, while men are more likely to do an activity. Since Dr. Phil has gotten people in motion to exercise, why not suggest to him to take up the challenge to invite those in grief to join the rest of his teams and start walking, with the author walking with Dr. Phil and individuals in grief? Do before, during and after appearances on his show to note the individuals’ progress.”
