Forbes.com editor offers 6 pitching tips

I’m starting to sound like a broken record:

Read the magazine, read the magazine, read the magazine before you pitch.

If you want to make it into the online version, read the website, read the website, read the website.

PR people still don’t get it. So says Forbes.com Editor Paul Maidment. He says almost no one—can you believe it???—bothers reading Forbes magazine or looking at the online version before pitching.

“About 50 percent of the pitches I get do exactly that: They fail to speak to us or our mission,” he tells Bulldog Reporter in its Journalist Speak Out feature. Scroll about halfway down the page and you’ll find his comments, as well as a half dozen pitching tips.
