Publishers launching 5 new magazines

Meg Weaver of Wooden Horse Publishing wants Publicity Hounds to know about these five new magazines, or those planning to launch soon:

—My House in the Mountain States is the first in a series of “My House in…” shelter magazines by McGraw-Hill, consisting of regional magazines serving high-end homeowners and the design and building professionals. Mindy Pantiel is the editor.

–The new quarterly, Plains Faith, launched in September. Publisher and editor Debra Wells said the purpose is to promote a better understanding of God for those who want to know Him better. Contact her at PO Box 52407, Amarillo, TX 79159-2407.

—CHOW is a new food magazine published by Jane Goldman, a former editor with the defunct The Industry Standard. The new title is aimed at “people who are passionate about food but have fairly primitive cooking skills.”

—Time Out Chicago, a weekly arts and entertainment listings magazine, is launching in early spring 2005. Chad Schlegel is the editor-in-chief.

–The latest shopping mag entry is Arthur Frommer’s Smart Shopping, launching this spring as a quarterly. It will deal with bargains and is designed for the entire U.S. population. Other yet-to-come pubs in this increasingly crowded category are Tip, Domino, Star Shop, and Vibe Vixen.
