Organic industry should be pitching right now

An article in the Oct. 1 issue of PR Week says recent recalls of Mattel toys and microwave popcorn presents the perfect opportunity for companies that make non-toxic, eco-friendly and organic products to generate publicity for their brands.

Here are some ideas to get you started:

—Restaurants can publicize organic menu offerings. Be willing to talk about how “organic” differs from “natural”? (See Publicity Tips for Restaurants, Chefs & Foodies.”)

—Any business that makes organic toys or clothing, or anything else for babies and children, should be explaining how their product differs from recalled items.

—Any business should promote what it’s doing to win back consumers’ confidence. What are you differently with labeling, signs, advertising?

Pitch not only to traditional media but to bloggers, too. And write and distribute press releases online. (See the free tutorial “89 Ways to Write Powerful Press Releases.”)
