Now, search for your releases

Lesson #87: Now, search for your releases

A few weeks after you’ve written and distributed your release, it’s a good idea to try to find all the places online where your press release is mentioned.

The easiest way is to simply use a search engine like Google.com, type in the headline, then see what comes up. I just did that with the press release I wrote for this course. I distributed it through ExpertClick.com.

Here’s what I found when I did a search:

  • Bloggers who had blogged about the course. This is good to know because if bloggers are interested in this topic, they might be interested in other topics that I write about, and I can pitch them.
  • Other websites that offer their readers help writing press releases. I emailed the website owners and told them about this course.
  • My competitors who are also offering press release information. There might be ways I can partner with them on joint venture projects. And unless I had done a search like this, I might never have discovered them.

To save yourself time searching online, create a Google Alert and so, on a regular basis, Google emails you articles on the web that include either the exact headline from your press release, or specific keywords that you use to create the alert. Watch the short video my friend Terry Brock created on how to use Google Alerts.

Opportunity #87:
Workshop you are presenting

Any live workshop deserves a press release. But don’t just give the who, what, when, where information. Included a bulleted list of what participants will learn.

When you schedule a workshop, or any other event such as a free or paid teleseminar, an in-person seminar, retreat, podcast, webinar, group coaching program, book signing or author event, a membership site or support group, make sure you get the best attendance possible.

Speakers, authors, coaches, facilitators, teleseminar hosts and anyone who wants to fill the room can learn how to do it by signing up for a free 7-part audio mini-course, courtesy of Suzanne Falter-Barnes and Travis Greenlee, authors of the home study course “Fill Your Groups Now!” Don’t make costly mistakes trying to fill your groups, only to find yourself in front of lots of empty seats on the the big day.
