How to promote Nordic jewelry

Donald Hansen of Issaquah, Washington, whose company makes Nordic jewelry, wants to know how to promote the products.

From Margaret Vos of Wellington, New Zealand:

"How about finding some Nordic genealogy sites and offering your products through them? If I were of Nordic descent, I’d love to buy something meaningful and historical for grandma, mom, grandkids, etc. – a piece of history that’s family history too. Interesting gifts are always a challenge, but this sounds like a great 2-birds-with-one-stone idea."

From David Herbst of Inverness, California:

"Consider making contact with Garrison Keillor of Prairie Home Companion fame whose radio show is on National Public Radio stations throughout the U.S. every weekend.

"He makes a lot of references and loving jokes about his Nordic ancestors and neighbors who emigrated from Norway and other countries of that frigid region to set up life in the mythical Minnesota town of Lake Wobegon. Perhaps they could become a sponsor of the show, or at least find a way to get him to feature their craft in some entertaining way in one of his stories."

From Wendy McClelland of Abbotsford, British Columbia:

"Try to pull together a three-way joint venture between himself, a Swedish clothing designer (either in the U.S. or Sweden) and IKEA – the large Swedish furniture and home furnishing retailer. You could put on a fabulous fund-raising fashion show at your local IKEA store highlighting the fashions of an up-and-coming designer and your jewelry."

The Publicity Hound says: Another great way to promote the jewelry is to write articles about it for magazines, newsletters, newspapers and niche publications read by your target audience. You can write about the history behind some of the more unusual pieces and ways to wear the jewelry. I explain how to write how-to articles during a teleseminar called "How to Write How-to Articles for Newspapers, Magazines and Trade Journals." It’s available as a CD, cassette tape or electronic transcript, and each comes with a template for a how-to article.
