Keep track of who’s using your articles

If you write articles for print or online publications, here are three
reasons why you should keep track of who’s using them.

–You want to thank the editors and start establishing a relationship with them.

–You want to add their names to your media database and continue submitting articles as often as you can.

–You want to know if anyone is stealing your material and claiming it as their own.

Finding the articles isn’t always easy. It seems like almost weekly,
someone emails me, asking permission to use an article they found at
another website, or in someone else’s ezine, or in a print newsletter.
Often, I’m not even aware those publications existed.

Internet marketing expert Martin Lemieux has devised a handy way of
keeping track of the many articles you’ve written. Use the same headline on an article even if you’re submitting it to multiple publications, and ask the publicatoins to use it, too. That will make it easier for you to find it.

If you’re tempted to change the headline so it looks like a different
article, don’t do it, or you’ll get confused later when doing your
detective work.

If you market on the Internet, you can learn tips like these and many more by becoming a member of the Internet Association of Information Marketers.
