Booklet author wants to attract licensees, publicity

wakeupbookletHugo Tschudin of River Vale, N.J. writes:

“My booklet, Wake Up to Abundant Energy: 113 Ways to Make it Easy to ‘Rise and Shine,’ takes the struggle out of getting up in the morning.

“I’d like to find licensees who could buy the booklets in bulk to give away to customers who request a catalog, visit a showroom, or download a report.  Or, a company can buy the booklets for their own employees who can wake up energized and work more efficiently.

“I have focused on companies most likely to help their customers and employees fight fatigue, such as mattress manufacturers, breakfast cereal companies and coffee shops.

“But I’m wondering if it would be more effective to focus on other lines of business, or just on very large employers?  How can I find licensees for this booklet?  Or how can I generate free publicity to let companies know about it?”

I think Twitter would be a great place to build up a following of folks who could spread the word about the booklet/the website. To do this, I think many of the tips would need to be tweeted, but I also suspect there’s much more Dr. Tschudin could tweet about than just the 113 tips – for example, links to news stories about sleep or energy or the lack thereof and the problems that can cause.

Still, if folks start using the tips and find them effective, I’m sure they’d spread the word. And there are many companies of all sizes with a presence on Twitter, including CEOs and other decision makers, so the possibility of sales leads seems very real to me….

Your recommendation that I start using social media is convincing– thanks! I will have to redo my website EnergizingLife.com first. It’s not SE-optimized and offers TONS of free information without the need for visitors to give me their e-mail addresses. But I will definitely follow your excellent advice as soon as I can.

I know of someone that could help you out tremendously, her name is Paulette Ensign and you can find her at http://tinyurl.com/qqtpo2. You can learn from someone who has been well paid for over a million of her “business cards” as tips booklets.
She can teach you how to get the word out using your booklets and how to sell you booklets enmasse.

Like you, I am also a fan of Paulette Ensign’s. I owe my booklet know-how to her. My guess is that many of our fellow “Publicity Hounds” could benefit greatly from contacts with her. Thank you very much for your suggestion!

How about going after the alternative medicine segment? You could reach out to naturopaths, Reiki healers, massage therapists, etc. and reach a whole new market – those who are looking for alternative solutions to health issues – like fatigue!

Following your very convincing suggestion (thanks!) I will move alternative medical practitioners much higher up than before on my list of “targets” than before.
Do you think any of these practitioners are big enough to be able to use enough booklets to make it practical for them to make their own printing arrangements? They would probably want to have their “coordinates” added to the cover page (in the empty space provided for this purpose). I would like not to get involved in these arrangements because of this detail work would be very time-consuming. I would like to merely grant licenses.
Do you happen to know organizations that may be big enough to become licensees?
Thank you for any additional suggestions you may have!

You should absolutely contact Paulette Ensign, the booklet queen, with these questions. She’s the undisputed leader in booklet publishing and promotion. She has presentations and home study courses on exactly the things you’re interested in here — how to license, how to sell — and they’re worth every penny you’ll spend. She also offers one-on-one coaching/consulting on booklet publishing. I’ve purchased her beginner home study course and have listened to it over and over, and will do so again. I always get something new out of each session.

I’ve met Paulette in person and have found her to be both professionally accomplished and personally approachable. She’s incredibly generous with her knowledge. You will always get more than you expect from her, however you interface. Check her out at http://www.tipsbooklets.com/, and her blog at http://tipsbooklets.blogspot.com.

(And no, I’m not a paid shill. I just really believe Paulette is one of those gurus who — like Joan — really knows her stuff and delivers more than you pay for every time.)

As mentioned above in my comments to Christine Buffaloe, I am also indebted to Paulette Ensign. I second your motion and recommend her highly to the Publicity Hound community. Thank you very much.

    Hi,
I’ve heard about people selling thousands of copies of books to companies. Major corporations are interested in looking after their employees, maybe you could approach them about giving your booklet out to employees as a Christmas gift or for no reason at all?

Make sure you can show them how buying your booklet and giving it to their employees will improve their bottom line- in terms of employee motivation, alertness at work (research shows that most employees only have 2 productive hours at work each day), and dollars. Then they may be willing to buy off you. Remember, it’s not just the coffee companies and those directly involved in fatigue that could be interested, alot of people benefit from others being more awake.

Maybe you could focus on industries where fatigue can cause mistakes that create big problems eg. surgeons, truck drivers etc. How good is it to know that the surgeons operating today are alert and awake! What could happen if they aren’t?!!!

I’d target corporate America and surgeons/dentists.

    Good luck!

Google “sleep disorders” and I’ll bet you find dozens of blogs and websites that discuss this problem.

Mail free tips booklets to bloggers who write about it and ask for reviews. Include information on how to order.

Googling SLEEP DISORDERS was indeed very productive. Thank you for this tip!
I will be delighted to send copies of my booklets to bloggers, as recommended by you. Is there a quick way for me to find their mailing addresses so that I don’t first have to respond to their blogs with requests for their addresses?
Your bloggers are great.. so helpful!
