Press Release Tip 80
Questions to ask if they write your release
I designed this course so you don’t have to hire someone to write your press release. But your time might be better spent finding new clients, consulting, creating new products, or traveling the speaking circuit.
If you’re hiring one of the distribution services or a freelance writer, make sure you know what you’re getting.
Ask these questions:
- How do you get the information from me for the release? Do we talk by phone? Do I give you my notes? Or do I complete a questionnaire? (eReleases has listed a variety of ways it can work with you.)
- If I don’t like the release after you’ve written it, how many rewrites am I entitled to?
- What if I don’t like the angle you’ve taken? Can I suggest my own angle? (They’re the experts at this. Follow their advice.)
- Do you do all the search engine optimization?
- Do you use “no follow” links exclusively? (The answer should be yes.)
- What’s the maximum number of words you’ll write?
- Do you do any research if needed? If so, is there an additional fee?
- Do you proofread the press release before you send it out?
- Do you provide graphics services if I need a map or a chart created to accompany the release? (I don’t know of any that do.)
- May I see some samples of press releases you’ve written that have gotten results?
Note: On Fiverr.com, you will find many freelance writers who are willing to write a release for $25-50. I recommend you not use anyone from Fiverr because you get what you pay for. If using a freelance PR person or a publicist to write your release, the same questions above apply.
Opportunity #80 to write a press release: A trade show where you’re exhibiting
Even though the trade show organizer will be getting publicity for the show, you can write a press release about what visitors will see when they come to your booth. Will you have hands-on exhibits, demonstrations or contests? Any giveaways? But don’t just seek publicity before the show. You can get it during the show and afterward, too. See my “Special Report #24: How to Create Media Publicity at Trade Shows and Conferences.” Only $7. Order here.
Best Deal: You can get my entire Value Pack of 52 special reports for only $97, a savings of $267 if purchased individually. See the entire list of titles and order here.
