Press Release Tip 77

Press Release Tip 77

Double-check all links

Nothing is more embarrassing than publishing a press release online, or sending it to a media outlet, and realizing that one of the links in your release has a typo.

If you’ve uploaded your release to one of the free press release distribution services, you may be out of luck because many of them don’t have help desks, so you’re stuck with the error. And you may have wasted an opportunity to send readers to your website.

That’s why you must double-check all links within your release by clicking on them and making sure they go to the correct pages.

If you discover your error too late, one option is to ask your webmaster to set up a redirect. That means going behind the scenes at your website and automatically redirecting readers to the correct page. A redirect can also be used if the link in your press release was correct when you wrote it but the page has been moved to a new location.

Opportunity #77 to write a press release: A survey you’re taking

You actually have two opportunities with surveys: one release to announce the survey and another to report on the survey results. Depending on the topic, survey results offer an excellent opportunity to include a graphic image like a bar chart or a  pie chart.

Results of polls and surveys are often newsworthy, and they create content for social media sharing. These are valuable publicity tools because they tip off reporters and bloggers to emerging trends, provide valuable research and include nuggets of information that can be excerpted and used as short items in newspapers and magazines. If you can’t think of an idea, you’ll find lots of inspiration in my “Special Report #19: How to Use Polls and Surveys That Brand You as an Expert.” Only $7. Order here.

Best Deal: You can get my entire Value Pack of 52 special reports for only $97, a savings of $267 if purchased individually. See the entire list of titles and order here.
