Press Release Tip 73

Press Release Tip 73

Use a link in the call to action

Don’t miss the opportunity to tell people exactly what you want them to do, and then provide the link that helps them do it.

This is known as the “call to action” and it doesn’t necessarily have to be at the bottom of the release.  Below, you can see examples of calls to action. Each would link directly to the page where you want readers to go. These are called anchor text links, and you’ll learn more about them in the next lesson. Notice that many of them include keywords:

“Buy tickets to the July 13 jazz concert”

“Like the ABC Widget Facebook page”

“Access our list of technology experts”

“Challenge your brain here”

“Join our LinkedIn group for real estate agents”

“Find out if you qualify for a horticulture scholarship”

“Listen to our podcast on how to care for a sick dog”

“Read our 30-day money-back guarantee”

“Subscribe to free updates”

“Download a sample chapter”

“Take our dating quiz”

“Search our home decorating articles database”

“Use our free calculator to help you retire early”

Subscribe to our YouTube videos on adoption”

Opportunity #73 for writing a press release:  Speaking engagements

When you book a free or paid speaking engagement, write a press release. A speaking engagement isn’t only an event in which you speak before a live audience. It includes a free or paid teleseminar, an in-person seminar, retreat, workshop, podcast, webinar, group coaching program, book signing or author event, a membership site or support group.

Need speaking engagements? SpeakerMatch.com [affiliate link] matches meeting planners with speakers. Members can see the complete online job board and application system made just for speakers. You will receive direct requests from meeting planners as well as open calls for speakers. And you can search their online database for more opportunities. Join today and access 5 free gifts:

  1. “Writing a Compelling Program Description” (PDF)

  3. An annual pass to SpeakerMatch’s monthly teleseminar series
  4. “Writing an Effective SpeakerMatch Application” for Meeting Planners (PDF)
  5. “Heal Your Boring Business Bio” by Nancy Juetten (PDF)

Next: Use a combination of anchor text links and HTML links.
