Press Release Tip 53
Tie your topic to a celebrity
Any time you can tie your product, service, cause or issue to a celebrity, you increase your chances for publicity and for people to find you on the Internet. This is especially true with books.
Author Laura K. Bryant wrote a press release about her book, “Trust Yourself to Transform Your Body: A Woman’s Guide to Health and Weight Loss Without Diets” and used a clever tie-in to Oprah.
“I sent the press release to all the local news stations in Chicago,” she said. “This particular release got an immediate (within 2 minutes of it being sent) call from a WGN News producer, who requested my media kit. Once the kit was received, my book was highlighted on WGN News, as a ‘Hot Summer Read.'”
I love this release because it’s so short and to the point. Notice the way Laura teases the reader—and the media—with the promise of more great information in the four bulleted items. This is a very powerful technique that will prompt media people to call you.

Oprah and New Book Share Same Weight-Loss Secret
GURNEE, Ill.—On her May 12, 2005 show, Oprah revealed the truth about weight-loss success: “The most important thing is for YOU, as an individual, to develop your own system and plan based on everybody else’s information. Because… you know your body better than anybody does. That is the real secret.”
Laura K. Bryant, women’s health and fitness speaker and author, could not agree more and shows each woman how to create her own customized plan to reach and maintain a healthy weight in her new book, “Trust Yourself to Transform Your Body: A Woman’s Guide to Health and Weight Loss Without Diets.”
Bryant, a weight-loss success story herself, knows how critical it is to create your own plan: “By doing so, you’re not only telling yourself that you are worth the time and effort, but that you believe you can have an impact on your weight and your health.” Bryant also reveals what women really want to know:
-
What can make it absolutely impossible to ever reach and maintain a healthy weight.
-
The two biggest mistakes women make when wanting to lose weight.
-
Where your focus must lie to be a weight-loss success.
-
The single, most effective way to lose weight and keep it off for a lifetime.
The secret is out, and “Trust Yourself to Transform Your Body” shows women how to use the secret for ultimate weight-loss success. The book is $17 and can be ordered at http://www.amazon.com/Trust-Yourself-Transform-Your-Body/dp/0975356100

Need Celebrity Addresses?
You can contact celebrities for interviews, ask for book blurbs for the cover or your book, or to request book reviews. But how do you reach them? By using “The Celebrity Black Book (2019)” that includes their names and contact information, or contact info for members of the inner circle. It’s the best way to get through to them, and it’s available on Amazon through this affiliate link. Read my article on “13 Ways to Use the Black Book for Publicity.”
Opportunity #53 to write a press release: Sources quoted in your book
Generate lots of publicity in multiple markets by sending a short press release to the hometown newspapers of people who you interview for your nonfiction book. That’s what Sandra Beckwith did when she worked as a publicist. Instead of sending one press release with 22 names to 22 different newspapers who only care about the hometown source, she wrote 22 separate press releases. She explains how she did it and gives you a sample template you can use. See “Use Expert Sources to Generate Local Book Publicity.”
Next: Use blurbs within your press release.
