Instead, she suggests that\u00a0people pay $18 for a one-year subscription to the magazine and learn essentially what&#8217;s in the ebook.<\/p>\n<p>If only it were that easy.<\/p>\n<p>If Amy could\u00a0sit at my desk for just one week, taking phone calls and answering emails from people who are desperate to either get onto Oprah&#8217;s TV show or into her magazine, she&#8217;d\u00a0understand why Susan wrote the ebook.\u00a0Most people who contact me:<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;Can&#8217;t pitch their idea convincingly in less than 15 seconds<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;Have topics that Oprah or her audience wouldn&#8217;t care about<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;Don&#8217;t know what an editorial calendar is<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;Lack experience in front of a TV camera\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;Don&#8217;t understand how big magazines\u00a0like &#8220;O&#8221; operate<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;Can&#8217;t afford\u00a0publicists who know\u00a0how to play the game<\/p>\n<p>Some people\u00a0who want to get into &#8220;O&#8221;\u00a0even admit they haven&#8217;t read it. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s why\u00a0the market is flooded with teleseminars, CDs and tapes, ebooks, transcripts, boot camps and\u00a0coaching programs\u00a0on how to get onto &#8220;Oprah,&#8221; other national TV and radio\u00a0talk shows, and into top-tier newspapers and magazines like &#8220;O&#8221; and even Women&#8217;s Wear Daily.<\/p>\n<p>Much of the material in Susan&#8217;s book, including strategies used by various publicists on how they got their clients into the magazine,\u00a0are indeed secrets that most people don&#8217;t know about. If they weren&#8217;t secrets, then magazine editors wouldn&#8217;t complain about pesky people who don&#8217;t know how to pitch.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The editors at &#8220;O&#8221; ought to be sending Susan Harrow thank-you notes.<\/p>\n<p>Full disclosure: I earn\u00a0commission\u00a0for selling Susan&#8217;s ebook and other people&#8217;s publicity products, but I\u00a0refer my readers only to those that I can\u00a0stand behind 100 percent.
