When I worked as a newspaper editor for more than 20 years,
\nI had my own pet peeves about people who were clueless about
\nworking with the media. They included:<\/p>\n
–Idiots who called to complain, “You’ve written about my
\ncompetitor three times but you’ve never written about me!” <\/p>\n
–News releases that didn’t list the name or phone number of
\na contact person.<\/p>\n
–People who agreed to be interviewed, but changed their
\nminds after the reporter showed up for the interview.
\n(Reporters NEVER called them again.)<\/p>\n
–People who were interviewed, then demanded to read the
\nstory before it was printed. (Don’t even ask this question
\nor you too will NEVER be called again.)<\/p>\n
–People who emailed news releases as attachments. If a
\nnews release can’t be sent in the body of the e-mail, don’t
\nbother sending it. You wouldn’t believe how many seasoned PR
\npros do this.<\/p>\n
–E-mailed news releases with a subject line that said “News
\nRelease.” The subject line must explain what the release is
\nabout.<\/p>\n
–People who called to insist that the newspaper owed them a
\nstory because they bought several thousand dollars of
\nadvertising each year.<\/p>\n
