    We were hoping for a St. Paddy’s Day baby but little Savannah Leigh<\/strong>, my new great-niece, was about four hours too late when she was born on Saturday in Delaware, Ohio. It’ll be wild when I return home this Christmas: nine adults, 2-year-old twin girls, Savannah who will be crawling by then, and Macie the Golden Retriever, who the twins use as a footstool when they want to climb onto the couch.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

    Does a big chunk of your business come from your local community?<\/p>\n

    If so, claim your spot<\/strong> in local online directories. Don’t assume that if you prepare federal tax returns in Orlando, a consumer will find you if she types “tax preparers orlando” into Google.<\/p>\n

    She’ll probably find two or three local directories such as Yelp or Thumbtack in the organic, or unpaid, search results before she finds the website of a local tax preparer. Ouch!<\/strong> If you’re not in one of those directories, you’re competing with the dozens of other businesses listed in them.<\/p>\n

    Website Magazine has a list of 100 local directories that work hand in hand with local search results to boost your visibility. The Top 5:<\/p>\n

    1. Google My Business<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n
    2. YellowPages.com<\/a><\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n
    3. Yelp<\/a><\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n
    4. Facebook<\/a><\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n
    5. Manta<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      To do:<\/strong> See the 95 other sites in the article “Essential Local Directories for Visibility.”<\/a> You don’t need them all or even most of them. Some are for niche businesses like home improvements & services, weddings, travel, real estate, restaurants, etc.<\/p>\n

        3. Push Your Book Over the Finish Line<\/h3>\n

        Do you have a book manuscript that’s “almost there”? Can you use help publishing and promoting it?<\/p>\n
