    After dog-sitting a gorgeous Chocolate Lab\/Springer Spaniel for 10 days, I fell in love with her. It broke my heart to give her back last night. The good news is I can “borrow” her whenever I need a dog fix.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

    This one is courtesy of book shepherd Judith Briles<\/strong>, one of the smartest self-promoters I know.<\/p>\n

    Create a customized nametag that promotes your book or your area of specialty. Why rely on the same old they-all-look-alike tags everyone else is wearing?<\/p>\n

    When I want a super-quick graphics tool, I open PowerPoint, create what I want, take a screenshot, crop it in a photo editing program like PicMonkey, and I’m good to go.<\/p>\n

    The other option is Canva.<\/a><\/p>\n

    To do:<\/strong> Check your calendar now for the next live event you’ll be attending, and make a note to create your own nametag. It doesn’t have to be fancy. It just has to be different.<\/p>\n

    2. 31 Influencers to Follow<\/h3>\n

    Looking for the top trends to adapt to your own marketing?<\/p>\n

    Check out the list of “31 Influencers to Follow in 2017,” compiled by Ellen Gomes<\/strong>, senior content marketing manager at Marketo.com. Many of these experts–like Lee Odden, Peg Fitzpatrick, Michael Stelzner<\/strong> and Anne Handley<\/strong>–are among my favorites. They produce top-quality content that makes me smarter–and it’s always worth sharing.<\/p>\n

    Ellen did something clever with this list of names. She researched all the experts’ Twitter handles and created an “Influencers to Follow”<\/a> Twitter list that lets you access all their tweets with just one click. How many of the 31 experts do think will be retweeting the link to Ellen’s blog post, and the link to her Twitter list, to their massive audiences?<\/p>\n

    To do:<\/strong> Create a “Top Influencers List” for your own industry. Publish it on your blog. Create a Twitter list. Then let each person you’ve chosen know they made the list.<\/p>\n

    3. Wanted: Hounds Who Are Experts<\/h3>\n

    For a project I’m working on, I’m looking for authors, speakers and small business owners in any industry who are experts in a topic and would agree to share with me what they’ve done to attain expert status.<\/p>\n

    You don’t need to be the Number 1 expert in your niche. Or even one of the Top 10. I’m looking for experts at any level who are willing to discuss what they’ve studied to become an expert, what they’ve done with their expertise, and specific revenue streams they’ve created as a result. This might be a hobby you’ve turned into a business, expertise you’ve attained in a topic the same as or different than a degree you have received, expertise tied to your book or speaking topic, or a need you saw in the marketplace that you jumped in to fill.<\/p>\n

    To do:<\/strong> Email me<\/a> with the subject line “I’m an Expert” and give me a brief summary of your expertise and revenue streams you’ve created from it. If I think you’re a good fit for the project, I’ll be back in touch with you and we’ll schedule an interview.<\/p>\n
