Don&#8217;t Solicit Reviews on Yelp<br \/>\n======================================<\/p>\n<p>Three times in the last week, Publicity Hounds have asked me how<br \/>\nto encourage their customers to write good reviews about them on<br \/>\nYelp, the site that helps people find great local businesses like<br \/>\ndentists, hair stylists and mechanics.<\/p>\n<p>Why all the interest?<\/p>\n<p>Because from July to August this year, more than 38 million<br \/>\npeople visited Yelp. Yelpers have written more than 12 million<br \/>\nlocal reviews, 83 percent of them rating a business with three<br \/>\nstars or higher.<\/p>\n<p>A few favorable reviews can have customers lining up at your<br \/>\ndoorstep. Here are the three most important things business<br \/>\nowners need to know about Yelp:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Use it. It&#8217;s powerful.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;You shouldn&#8217;t solicit favorable reviews from customers or<br \/>\nyou&#8217;re violating the Terms of Service. And no swinging a deal<br \/>\nwith another business to &#8220;write a good review about me and I&#8217;ll<br \/>\nwrite a good one about you.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;You should respond to bad reviews publicly and privately. Guaranteed.<\/p>\n<p>And it can be for sale quickly at Amazon.com&#8217;s Kindle store,<br \/>\nwhere millions of readers are looking for books that will make<br \/>\nthem smarter or entertain them. For every 100 hardcover books<br \/>\nAmazon is selling, it sells 143 Kindle ebooks.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the best part.
