Traditional PR Fading Fast<br \/>\n=====================================<\/p>\n<p>If the increasing use of social media keeps building, social<br \/>\nmedia will overtake traditional media as a PR tool within two<br \/>\nyears.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s one of the findings of a recent survey by<br \/>\nStevensGouldPincus, merger and management consultants to the<br \/>\ncommunications industry.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, the total percentage of work devoted by communications<br \/>\nconsulting firms to social media as opposed to traditional media<br \/>\nis 30 percent overall. Next year, the percentage will increase to<br \/>\nan average of 42 percent, with firms over $3 million in revenue<br \/>\nincreasing to 46 percent.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If this trend persists,&#8221; said managing partner Art Stevens,<br \/>\n&#8220;within the next two years, social media will replace traditional<br \/>\nmedia as PR\/PA?s primary tool for reaching client audiences with<br \/>\nnews and information. First, most poetry books are duds. Second, she isn&#8217;t<br \/>\ninterested in producing any spin-off products or services from<br \/>\nthe book.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, authors who publish really impressive books with<br \/>\ncompelling content have the same attitude. Carve a Pumpkin &amp; Get on TV<br \/>\n======================================<\/p>\n<p>If you want to make it onto the local TV news, here&#8217;s an idea for<br \/>\ncompanies and nonprofits everywhere.<\/p>\n<p>Host a pumpkin-carving contest and ask your employees to<br \/>\nparticipate. Nothing new about that idea, but here&#8217;s the kicker<br \/>\nthat just might bring the TV cameras to your doorstep.<\/p>\n<p>Tell the TV station that someone from your company will carve the<br \/>\nTV station&#8217;s call letters into a pumpkin, so they can show it as<br \/>\npart of the news clip. You can also ask if someone at the station<br \/>\nwill choose a winner during the actual competition, when<br \/>\nemployees can carve whatever they wish into their pumpkins.<\/p>\n<p>This is a schmaltzy idea, but TV producer Shawne Duperon says it<br \/>\nworks and, right now, the timing is perfect.
