1. Deadline Tonight for Email Training<\/h3>\n
I’m so excited to be teaching email marketing to a group of talented authors who have expertise in a variety of fun, interesting topics.<\/p>\n

Despite their varied backgrounds, the strategy they will use to make money from email marketing is the same. The types of content they will share in their emails–videos, cheat sheets, checklists, “best of” lists, articles, tips and advice, personal stories–are also the same.<\/p>\n

One of my LinkedIn connections told me she’s planning to drop in to radio stations where she wants to be booked as a guest. She’s outgoing, loves talking to strangers, and she’s willing to give it a try.<\/p>\n
Not so fast, I said.<\/p>\n
Radio stations are busy places, with overworked producers, guest bookers and talk show hosts. We’re all so swamped these days that we almost have to make an appointment to call each other on the phone.<\/p>\n
Never drop in unannounced. Call or email first.<\/p>\n
3. Learn About PR from the Circus<\/h3>\n
Puzzled about the difference between advertising, promotion, publicity and PR?<\/p>\n
“If the circus is coming to town and you paint a sign saying \u2018Circus Coming to the Fairground Saturday,\u2019 that\u2019s advertising. If you put the sign on the back of an elephant and walk it into town, that\u2019s promotion. \u00a0<\/p>\n
“If the elephant walks through the mayor\u2019s flower bed, that\u2019s publicity. And if you get the mayor to laugh about it, that\u2019s public relations.”<\/p>\n
I used that unattributed quote during an audio interview I did about book publicity a few years ago with Joel Friedlander. It’s an oldie but goodie you might have missed. \u00a0<\/p>\n
