I’m at the winter workshop\u00a0sponsored by the National Speakers Association<\/a>, and I attended great presentations yesterday and today by Tom Antion<\/a>, my Internet marketing mentor, and blogger Kim Snider<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Both spoke about blogs. And\u00a0based on their tips, here are 5 mistakes I’ve identified that Publicity Hounds make when blogging:<\/p>\n

  1. They don’t use keywords in their headlines or posts.<\/strong> The search engines love blogs\u00a0and give blog entries good ranking. But how can people find your blogs if you don’t include the same\u00a0keywords in the post or the headline that people (including journalists) use when Googling for the kind of information you don’t provide?<\/li>\n
  2. They aren’t controversial.<\/strong> The more controversial your blog, the more bloggers will link to you and the more journalists\u00a0will seek you out.<\/li>\n
  3. They fail to understand ways to promote themselves in their blog.<\/strong> See the ebook covers to the right of this blog?\u00a0You’ll also notice links to\u00a0specific product pages at my website, like this one<\/a>, which\u00a0features a CD on blogging.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n
  4. They don’t use little bells and whistles.<\/strong>\u00a0Creating audio posts, for example, is a great way to post to your blog directly from your cellphone while\u00a0you’re on vacation or away from the office.<\/li>\n
  5. They ask other bloggers to link to them.<\/strong> If your blog is good, bloggers will do this automatically and you shouldn’t have to ask.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    If you recognize yourself on this list (I know I do), then \u00a0get moving to improve your blog\u00a0to make it easy for journalists and others to find you.<\/p>\n
